I am SO HEALTHY 🤡

Sometimes I think we’re making strides towards a neutral, inclusive, place with health.
Other times I’m reminded of how much we have been drip fed such reductive beliefs around health that bring judgement, shame, and consequently, for many, disordered eating.
Last week I was on the receiving end of food comments, and health status assumptions.
I was called “very healthy”
The comment was made on the awareness of one meal I was eating…
I’m quite resilient to comments nowadays, that said I’ve been on the receiving end of comments on food choices for decades.
“Should you be eating that”
“Do you need anymore”
“Haven’t you not long ate”
“I’m surprised you’re eating that”
These comments came at 140kg and 53kg
Assumed dietary intake based on my body weight.
(Hello weight bias, hello shame ridden beliefs)
Reducing permission to eat
Removing the ability to attain freedom with food
Narrowing awareness into calories in
Assuming health status of people with little to no understanding on ANY OTHER FACTOR of their life
I had comments on eating a burger at 140kg
And had them at 53kg
Shouldn’t be eating that
To shocked you’re eating that
Luckily now, I’ve gained awareness and understanding, I have removed the judgement, the weight of others opinions, derogatory beliefs and rules from diet culture
That said, it was a reminder of how much we can assume with little or no knowledge.
This person had seen the lunch I was cooking and assumed I was healthy
The issue with this?
Diet = health
Body shape = health
Would that comment have been made if they’d seen the Rocky road I ate this weekend?
Or the near menty b I had last week from the toughest sleep and separation anxiety?
Or the fact that I don’t get a full nights sleep? Or that some days my movement is sub optimal and I choose rest?
Or that I eat protein bars and UPF at times?
Or that I can skip meditating and choose reading?
We do it so often it likely feels normal.
Comment on bodies
Make assumptions on food choices
Assume people “feel good” because they are small
Assume they are “disciplined, motivated, healthy” because they are in their BMI
Assume some are “lazy, unmotivated, greedy”
We validate with compliments, praise,
We shame with judgement, comments,
Like I said, I’ve been at the receiving hand of both comments, and maybe you have to?
Judgement for my body and diet in a larger body
And that of a smaller body
Both hurtful and FALSE.
Health is not a weight, shape, size
It’s a feeling.
It’s multifaceted.
It’s different for everyone and goes FAR BEYOND what you put in your mouth.
Sure that’s a contributing factor, but it’s not it all, focusing solely on food removes your ability to ever attain TRUE HEALTH
By that I mean, acceptance, freedom, resilience, compassion, permission to eat.
I am the healthiest I’ve been for a long time
But I’m also the messiest, softest, and most imperfect.
I rest more than ever, I have more boundaries, more kindness, more respect, more patience, tolerance.
Rewriting your own understanding of health is fundamental to sustaining your health..
Consider it now,
What do you truly believe health is?
Is that the real version of health, or one you’ve been led to believe?
How would you like to feel in your body, with food, your relationships if your goal is health?
This work goes far beyond food,
Here we have an overarching view and consideration to health, it’s why our method supports sustainability,
It’s mindset, behaviours, awareness.
Loading you up with the tools to navigate a world that is, unfortunately, so obsessed with food and bodies.
Have a think about it!
