I remember thinking it for a while, and actually it was in all stages of my journey, at 140kg and 53kg,

The way diet culture market, the way the fitness industry portray things can have you question yourself, doubt yourself, conclude things about yourself that are not true.

It’s one of the ways it keeps you trapped, feeding the multi billion dollar industry, but at the expense of your self worth, your self compassion and ultimately your health.

You’ve likely thought it at times before, I know many of the 00’s of people I’ve worked with once did too,

To the point where it can create inaction, or worse still increase disordered eating.

The seeking if more control, more perfection, more avoidance, more restriction, only to perpetuate overeating, and like I said, keep you stuck in a cycle, guilt, shame,

Each time eating away at your confidence,

The reality is you are not broken..

You question so much about your food relationship,

Again, I know I once did too,

Why can you not eat normally like everyone else?

I’ll never forget one of my legend clients, Jo, she said to me;

“I always wondered how people could walk into Lidl and buy one thing from the bakery, now I get it and I can do it too”

Perhaps you regularly try and have ‘more motivation’ too - false, reductive, thanks Furness iNfLuEnCeRs 💀

And likely want fat loss?

But have concluded it’s not possible for you, you’re afflicted to food and not capable of being around certain food…

You are wrong ❌

I hear ALL your fears, uncertainty, and see your eye roll 👀

There is something you’re missing entirely with your journey, that’s keeping you stuck in this battle of self criticism, overeating and it’s this…

Understanding why you’re overeating!!

Ending overeating isn’t about “fixing” yourself, it’s about understanding what purpose food serves, identifying triggers, and finding alternative ways to meet your needs.

There’s internalised shame around using food to soothe, to comfort,

And while right now it may not feel entirely comforting, you’re left feeling empty, seeking more, once upon a time food met your needs.

It may even be habitual now.

Trying to avoid and restrict food when it has been a coping strategy only seeks to increase the shame, the guilt and actually prevent you ever feeling free, ever attaining permission to eat, and achieving any fat loss.

One of the core principles at thrive is emotional regulation, a fundamental in ending overeating, in food freedom.

It helps to;

  • Understand your feelings

  • Identify your emotions

  • Establish awareness of triggers

  • Build alternative strategies for navigating situations

We like to call it a “toolbox” to support you during any eventuality life throws at you, because life will do that, and until you work through the underlying overeating, you’ll simply mask over any chance of success, and frankly eat away at your self worth,

Because much like I did, and many of my clients, you blame yourself for your overeating,

It’s not a you problem,

It’s never been a you problem,

Releasing the mental burden of self blame and inviting curiosity into why helps to take a step forward in healing,

In being around food with confidence,

In ending the constant preoccupation with food,

In actually feeling healthy, like you again.
